Minnesota, Here We Come!

Dear Charger Parents,

I will be sending you emails with information as I get it. Minnesota University Coach has this to say about Hillsdale….”

"I am sure Hillsdale is not going to travel very well...coming from Michigan. We would love to dominate the noise and put a lot of pressure on the visiting team."

Well Coach Hoffner, I guess you don’t know the Hillsdale family very well. I think we have been challenged!

Right now, Dan Loy is organizing bus transportation out to Minnesota. He will need to know ASAP anyone who would like to RSVP for that charter. Please email him at dan@loyinsuranceagency.com if you want to get on the bus!! After seeing Coach Hoffner’s comments, I would love to see multiple buses swarming down on Minnesota State.

I will send lodging information later today. For tickets, can go online to purchase at....

http://www.msumavericks.com/index.aspx?path=football&

Make sure you get your tickets for the visitor section!!! Gotta make sure the Maverick fans can see the Hillsdale fans.

CHARGER BOWLING

Since the team banquet is this weekend on Sunday, many of you will be staying in Hillsdale Saturday night. Have you been wondering how you are going to fill the time Saturday evening? LET'S GO BOWLING!!
I have 4 lanes reserved at Hillside Bowling at 8pm for the early birds who can't stay awake past 10pm. I also have 10 lanes reserved at 9pm for the GLOW IN THE DARK BOWLING. I personally think the 9pm bowling will work for me since the day will have been long, and hanging out in the dark will probably be a good look for me! The Hillside lounge has recently been remodeled. They have beer, burgers, pizza, sandwiches and TVs. Bowling is $3.50 per game. Maybe we could even get some football players to join us as well, since it is possible they will still be in season and need to behave Saturday night. Who knows! RSVP back to me ( mary.veldheer@comcast.net) by Friday night so I can confirm with Hillside. Let's get together for some good old family fun! Bowling talent not necessary!

Chargers go to Ferris to play TRICKS and get TREATS

Hi Charger Parents!

Saturday once again, was an awesome display of teamwork from the Hillsdale football team. The Charger football team is making a great run for the playoffs. We are currently ranked 3rd in our region. I would love to give a shout out to every player receiving league recognition each week, but they are becoming to many for me to remember. Public accolades are great, but a great football team doesn’t survive with a few stars. I love watching all the guys work together as one group getting the job done. These games are being won by the guys both on the field and off the field. These games are being won by the incredible coaching staff and the trainers. I am so proud of them all!

This week we have a 2:00pm game in Big Rapids against the Ferris Bulldogs. Our Halloween tailgate will begin at 12 noon (or earlier). I really wanted to encourage you all to dress up for Halloween, but the weather forecast looks cold and possibly wet. I don’t think my Snow White costume will cut it. If you have something fun and warm to wear, don’t be shy. Dress up in costume if you wish. I would like to ask that everyone have a bowl of candy or some other treats available so any little kids coming to the game can Trick or Treat around the tailgate. We will be tailgating in lot 37 on the west side of the field (home side). The tailgating rules for Ferris are….

1. TAILGATING (WITH AND WITHOUT ALCOHOL) IS PERMITTED THREE HOURS PRIOR TO THE GAME AND AT HALFTIME ONLY. GAME ATTENDEES ARE EXPECTED TO BEHAVE IN A RESPONSIBLE AND CIVIL MANNER AT ALL TIMES.

2. TAILGATING (WITH ALCOHOL) IS PER MITTED IN THE FOLLOWING PARKING LOTS ONLY: LOTS 35,36 AND 37 (LOTS IM MEDIATLY WEST OF THE STADIUM).

3. GLASS CONTAINERS, KEGS AND COM MON ALCOHOL CONTAINERS ARE PRO HIBITED.

4. DRINKING GAMES AND DEVICES THAT PROMOTE BINGE DRINKING ARE PROHIB ITED. ITEMS WILL BE CONFISCATED AND DESTROYED.

5. UNDERAGE DRINKING IS NOT PER MITTED; ALL LOCAL AND STATE LAWS OBEYED.

6. Hillsdale Wins

For those who still need to make RSVPs for Friday night, arrangements have been made at …

For fun meet at the “7-10 Bar & Grill” at 7-7:30pm……ask front desk for info

WE NEED 3 VOLUNTEERS FOR COOKIES/TREATS FOR THE PLAYERS TO EAT ON THE BUS RIDE BACK! The first 3 (I already have one volunteer, Cindy Russell) to get back with me are the winners!!! Thanks in advance and also thanks to all the people that have provided treats throughout the season ©

Since many of you will be driving back through Grand Rapids, we thought it might be nice to get together after the game. All you fanatics can break the game down play by play. After trying to think of a restaurant that would be convenient for folks passing through GR, we concluded that VITALES OF COMSTOCK PARK would be a good choice. Vitales has great pizza and lots of TVs. They are located just north of Grand Rapids at

3868 West River DR NE, Comstock Park, MI 49341

Take exit 91 for W River Dr toward Comstock Park

Turn right at W River Rd NE

Continue onto W River Dr NE

Destination will be on the left

We will be needing volunteers to take over some of the Parent Club responsibilities next year. Vonnie Sander has graciously agreed to take over my job with the emails. We are begging Kim Wiska to stay on as our Charger Gear fashion maven. THANKS Kim for doing that for us this year. Kathy Weatherhead will be the parent travel agent next year, securing arrangements for away games. Julie and Bob Panizzi get a BIG THANKS from me for doing such a great job with that this year! We still need a volunteer to coordinate the button orders and the roster lanyards. Someone will need to take that over since Vonnie will be busy with the emails. A home tailgate coordinator is needed as well. I would like to thank Julie and Bob Panizzi for coordinating all our home tailgaters. I would also like to thank Jim Veldheer (my hubby ) for getting our new banner this year and for getting all the info on our away tailgate parties. We will need someone to take that over. IT’S FUN TO GET INVOLVED!!! To recap, for next year we still need…..

--Button and Roster/Lanyard volunteer

--Home tailgater coordinator

--Banner and away tailgate coordinator

--photographer

Please see me or send me an email if you are interested.

See you all this weekend!!! Remember, dress in costume if you like! Maybe I will????? Bring warm clothes and your noise makers!

Go Chargers!!!!

The Hillsdale - Wayne State Showdown!

Hi Charger Parents,

What a terrific win for the Charger football team last weekend.  After traveling AALLL that way for a game, it was so sweet that the Chargers ended up with more points on the score board.  I missed being there but watched from afar.  For those who did not watch the game on the B2 network but were actually at the game, I want to let you know, you sounded awesome on TV!  It was amazing that NMU had so many people in the bleachers but they didn't really sound that loud on TV.  I could hear the Charger cheering section loud and clear!  Nice job.  I was so proud!

Let's get ready to make some serious noise this week as our guys take on Wayne State.  THIS GAME IS HUGE!!!  Our guys can do this and we need to be in the bleachers supporting them during every play.  The game is at 2:30p.m. so our tailgater will begin at 12:30p.m.  We will be in our usual gravel parking lot near the stadium.  Grills will be available for those who need to cook and don't have a grill.  Bring a dish to pass!  As you all probably know, this weekend is Parent's Weekend at Hillsdale College.  Hopefully we will get a really big crowd.  BRING YOUR NOISEMAKERS!!!

If you haven't already watched the video/slide show on You Tube of our Charger Team, you need to do so ASAP.  It is awesome.  I suspect that it was put together by Andy Losik but I don't have confirmation of that.  It is terrific!   I have included a link.  All you need to do is copy and paste in a new search box.  It can also be found at the chargerblue.com website.

Also, if you haven't been checking out Chargerblue.com, please do!  There are articles and updates added almost daily about this wonderful football team, it's players and it's coaches. Jan Szula was the game photographer ( since I couldn't be there ) - so check out her wonderful game pics.  Thanks Jan!

Thanks to all the parents who took treats to the NMU game for the guys to enjoy on their road trip back home.  Your efforts and generosity are appreciated.

I can't think of anything else. Let me know if I forgot something or if you need any other information. Get ready to rock Muddy Waters Stadium!!!!  See you Saturday (under colder, cloudy skies!)  Dress warmly.

Hillsdale Charges into NMU

HI CHARGER PARENTS AND FAMILIES,

I hope everyone has recovered somewhat from the big victory over GVSU.  We live in GVSU territory and I have taken great pleasure in wearing my HILLSDALE Charger gear all week out and about town! Who knows, I might just wear it next week too. Last weeks game was truly a very special homecoming game, one that will be remembered for decades to come!  While savoring the victory is sweet, the Charger team has had to refocus and get their game sites locked in on beating Northern Michigan University.  It's a long trip and the guys will need all the support (and noise makers) that they can get!  The tailgate party will begin at 11:00am.   We will be tailgating in lot 56 (the same as two years ago.)  Alcohol is permitted when tailgating in lots 55 & 56. Tailgating is permitted in all other lots but alcohol is not permitted  In case you need to make lodging arrangements, they are below.  I have also included the lodging for the Ferris game which is scheduled for Halloween day.  More on that party to come.

Go Chargers!!!

CHARGER HOMECOMING 2009!!

Dear Charger Parents:

It's hard to believe that the Hillsdale Chargers have had 6 games already.  THIS WEEKEND IS HOMECOMING!!!  Are you ready to have fun?  The College has lots of fun planned for folks heading to the game Saturday.  See the attached brochure on Homecoming activities!

THIS WEEK'S GAME BEGINS AT 2:30 p.m.  BECAUSE TAILGATING SPACE WILL BE SOMEWHAT LIMITED, THE PARENT TAILGATE WILL BEGIN AT 11:30 a.m.   Feel free to come even earlier than that.  The Tailgate will be in the grassy lot (next to where we usually tailgate) at the corner of College and Union.  This is going to be reserved for team families.  Since the space we have been given is smaller than what we usually use, COME EARLY IF YOU WANT A SPOT IN THE GRASSY LOT.  On the corner, we will have our parent's club tents set up.  Check underneath to see Kim Wiska for clothing order pick ups.

You can pick up car decals and roster lanyards ( each $5.00 ) from Vonnie Sandner.  You can find her underneath the tan colored canopy #28.

WE ARE PLANNING ON TAILGATING AFTER THE GAME TOO!  EACH FAMILY CAN PLAN THEIR OWN MENU BUT THE IDEA IS TO HAVE THE PLAYERS JOIN US AFTER THE GAME FOR GOOD FOOD AND A POST GAME WRAP-UP!   THIS COULD BE A CELEBRATON TO REMEMBER!  ALL THE PLAYERS, FAMILIES AND THEIR FRIENDS ARE INVITED.

I'm bringing noisemakers!  Let's Rock the Stadium!!!  GO CHARGERS!!!!!

Mary

FYI... The game at Ferris is on Halloween.  Dust off your costumes!

The Hillsdale Country Club would like to invite all the Football Families to eat at the Country Club after the football games.  I know this is a little late in the season, but when the offer was extended, we didn't have any games to which it applied.  Reservations are encouraged so they can have staff available.  They will also take reservations the day of the game.

Parents are reminded to check out www.sportsbypete.com for pics of the homecoming game and activities.

The following is a note Coach Otterbein received.  We are passing it along to you.  The plaques are actually pretty cool.  Check it out.

Hi Chargers!! My name is John Girgash. My son Jason  is a former Charger. I am and have been a assistant football coach at Bay Village High School outside of Cleveland, Ohio for the last ten years. I am starting a Plaque Memorabilia Business targeted to high school and college athletes, their parents and supporters of the Chargers. I was hoping you could give me a name to contact for a Parent's Club, or Mom's club or Booster Club. I think they would like to see what we can make for their athletes. Please visit our website at http://www.3dmemoryplaques.com to see our unique examples of how we can help your athletes preserve their sports memories. These are great for banquets, home, or to take with them in their college dorms. I would love to discuss with you the opportunities we can help you with. Please reply back to this email or call me at 440-835-5449. Here's an example of a plaque we could make for your Chargers.  Please look at our website to see  other examples.

Thank You,

John Girgash

The Chargers are Crashing the Findlay Homecoming!

Hi Charger Parents and Fans!!

The Charger team had a GREAT game last weekend.  Maybe our guys love playing in the misty rain.  It looks like they might get another chance to play in it this weekend.  If they like the rain, I'll like the rain.  This week we travel to Findlay.  THIS WILL BE ANOTHER HUGE GAME FOR THE CHARGERS!  Bring your noisemakers and be ready to cheer the guys to another victory. The game starts at 4:00pm so the tailgater will be at 2:00pm.  This is Findlay's homecoming so their campus will be busy.  We will try to get there a little earlier than 2pm.

Tailgating for Hillsdale fans will take place in the parking lot east of the visitor's stand behind Donnell Middle School. The parking lot is really small so get there early.   The school (Donnell Middle School) address is:

301 Baldwin Av.;
Findlay, OH  45840
The parking lot is behind Donnell Middle School.

A big thanks goes out to Vonnie Sandner, Nancy Petro, Sharon Meece, and Kathy Weatherhead for bringing post game treats for the players!  Yum!!!

Anyone who ordered a button from Vonnie on Saturday September 19th please confirm the order with her at   vonnurse@sbcglobal.net.   Clothing orders are not in yet.  We are anticipating they will be at our game next weekend. (Homecoming Oct. 11 vs. GVSU.)

I wanted to congratulate ( a little late ) Coach Otterbein for getting his 100th win in the game against Indianapolis.  That is truly a noteworthy accomplishment.  Coach, you now have 101 wins and we are looking forward to getting 102 this weekend.  Keep the cigars coming!

Have you all been checking out the Chargerblue.com website?  Andy Losik is probably the ultimate Charger fan and has bringing us up-do-date news and information about the team and league.  Congratulations also go out to Troy Weatherhead ( GLIAC offensive player of the week against Michigan Tech,)  Mark Petro ( GLIAC special teams player of the week against Indianapolis,) and Vinnie Panizzi ( GLIAC offensive player of the week against Ashland.)  These are all special accomplishments and we are so proud of our guys for all their hard work! ( Should we thank their parents too for raising boys that can throw, kick and run? I can only imagine how much stuff was broken in their (and all of your) homes.  Yikes! )

That's it for this week.  See you all this weekend.  No road trip is too long to support the Hillsdale Chargers!  Rain or shine, we will be in the stands making noise.

Hillsdale Chargers Are Going To Ashland!

Hi Charger Parents!

The team had a great game against Indianapolis last Saturday night! Another game in the "win" column. The guys played tough and they denied the Greyhounds a single point. Smelling Coach Otterbein's celebratory cigar smoke out on the field is always a good thing!

This week the Chargers play at Ashland University at 1:00p.m. Ashland will be a tough opponent and all Charger support is needed. Bring your noise makers, relatives and loud friends! The tailgate will begin officially at 11:00a.m. but we all know that some of you will be there early and be all set up by then. If you have any questions, let me know.

Since the game is early in the day, lodging arrangements have been made for the night before. If you have not made arrangements and would like to do so, we are staying at........

The Chargers and traveling to Northwood!

Dear Charger Parents,

I have to start this email by saying the parents, grand parents, relatives, friends and Hillsdale students came out in full force to support the Charger Football team!  What an awesome show of support.  I have to believe it makes a huge difference to the guys on the field.  So I start this by saying, "GREAT JOB CHARGER FANS!!!"

Next on the list....WHAT A GAME!!  Our guys did a terrific job beating the Michigan Tech. Huskies.  It was an exciting game and we had more points on the board at the end of the game.  I love it!!!

This Saturday we take on the Northwood Timberwolves at 12 Noon.  That means that once again we have a 10am tailgater. We will meet in the parking lot just south of the Bennett Sports Center.  I have included directions so you should have no problems.  AGAIN, we will have some folks firing up the grills, so feel free to use them!

The boys really appreciate the goodies.

Next week we play at home.  The following 2 weeks we will be on the road.  The following are the lodging arrangements that have been made.  Make your RSVP early.
