Hi Charger Parents,

What a GREAT win over Ferris last Saturday!
Chargers have their final game of the season this Saturday at Tiffin. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

http://www.tiffin.edu/about/directions/map/CampusColorMap1.pdf will get you to Tiffin Ohio from N, S, E or W but the stadium is not on campus.

The stadium is Frost-Kalnow Stadium and it is at 300 South Monroe St., Tiffin Ohio 44883. This website will get you there http://www.tiffin.k12.oh.us/tcs/Directions/MapToStadium.pdf. From Hillsdale to the stadium it would be http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Hillsdale+&1s=MI&1pn=Hillsdale+College&2c=Tiffin+&2s=OH&2a=300+South+Monroe+St#a/maps/l:Hillsdale+College:33+E+College+St:Hillsdale:MI:49242:US:41.93139:-84.633433:address:/l::300+S+Monroe+St:Tiffin:OH:44883-2959:US:41.10803:-83.177159:address:Seneca+County/m::6:41.519706:-83.898394:0:::::/io:1:::::f:EN:M:/e

We will tailgate on the South side of the stadium just past the ticket booth. Look for the Hillsdale Blue! The tailgate will begin at 10:30-10:45.

Paul Korte needs 4 volunteers for treats! Please email Paul at pkorte2@comcast.net if you are able to volunteer or you have told Paul you can do it!

THE CHARGER FOOTBALL BANQUET WILL BE HELD THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9 AT 1:00. SENIORS AND THEIR PARENTS ARE TO MEET IN THE FIELD HOUSE AT NOON FOR PICTURES. If you have not already done so, you can still sign up for the banquet by emailing or calling Anita Gordan at (517) 607-3133 anita.gordon@hillsdale.edu if you have any questions. The cost is $20.00 per person and remember that you do not need to pay for your son.

I would also like to give a great big THANKS to.......
Paul and Patty Korte for all their work getting us maps and hotels for all of our away games. Paul also coordinated our own "operation bus treat" campaign!
Rick and Theresa Hesselink for cordinating our tailgaters.
Vonnie Sandner for making sure we all have pins/buttons displaying our favorite Charger.
Kim Wiska for coordinating our Charger spirit wear for the season.
Paul File for being our team grill master.
Andy Losik for keeping us informed on the Chargerblue web site.

The Kortes, Hesselinks and Files are all graduating this year. We are looking for volunteers to fill their shoes. Please email me or any of the above mentioned parents to inquire about getting involved in these activities. When broken down, the jobs all require just a small amount of time to complete. I am hoping that Kim and Vonnie will stay on as coordinators of the clothing and buttons! I'm not too proud to beg! Please stay!!!!

See you Saturday in Tiffin! Come ready (and dressed for cold rain) and make some serious Charger Noise!!!!

Hillsdale Senior Day Saturday!

Hi Charger Parents!

Let's go to Hillsdale this weekend and cheer on the Chargers at their last home game. I'm sure our guys are hungry to get out on the field and play hard against the Ferris Bulldogs! As you may already know, the last home game is usually Senior Day. Saturday we will recognize the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our Football Seniors during their career at Hillsdale College. Senior parents need to assemble on the field near the banner area at 1:55p.m. Parents will line up in numerical order. Introductions will begin at 2:05 sharp!

The tailgater will begin at 12 noon. Grills will be available.

P.S.-- If any of you have taken pictures at the football games during the season, please go to Chargerbluespace and down load them. A year end commemorative is in the works and all pictures are welcome. You can get to chargerbluespace by going to chargerblue.com. The chargerbluespace link is in the upper right hand corner. It's easy!

P.S.S. -- Chef Patty Korte is this year's CHILI COOK-OFF first place winner! While all the chili was delicious, Patty's had more votes and was declared the winner. Next year, I am bringing Fritos to put in my chili. I'm not saying the Fritos cinched the deal for Patty, but they didn't hurt. Maybe Patty will share her recipe with all of us. Would it be easier to just get it off the back of the Hormel can? Just kidding Patty. Your chili was great!

P.S.S.S. -- A big THANKS goes out to all the parents who have brought treats/cookies throughout the season for the players to eat on the buses on their way back to Hillsdale. The guys can always tell that mom's (or dad's) secret baking ingredient is "love." Some weekends they needed more love than others. I saw the smorgasbord of treats last weekend and it was impressive. The guys love it -- so Thank you!

P.S.S.S.S.-- I have no p.s.s.s.s.!

See you Saturday! GO CHARGERS!

Your Faithful Charger Cheerleader,
Mary

Calling all Amateur Charger Photographers! Post Photos!

Have you ever brought a camera to a Hillsdale Football Game? Andy Losik is offering to compile a commemorative photo CD with various pictures taken during the 2008 Football season. Once at the Chargerblue.com site, click on the chargerbluespace box and set up an account. At the chargerbluespace page, there is also an "Animoto" video. Click on it and enjoy the show. We are hoping to have something fun for each player to keep that will be similar (but much longer) to the one on-line.

Then all you need to do is load your photos. If I could figure it out, I feel pretty confident most of you can too. It really is pretty simple. When loading, you can load each picture individually, or click on to "other options" and do a bulk load. Thanks for all your participation and help on this project.

WSU Parking Map

Here is a map to the Charger tailgate area for Saturday's game at Wayne State.

Hillsdale at Wayne State -- 12 Noon!

Hey Charger Parents and Fans,

It looks like our fortitude may be tested as true fans this weekend. The forecast is currently predicting 50 degrees and rain! Be prepared. We travel to Wayne State this weekend. Game time is 12 Noon. There is no organized breakfast theme tailgate planned(we can eat burgers in the morning!) at this time but we will have grills available. Bring a dish to share/pass. This is a big game for the Chargers, so come prepared to make some serious noise! It really makes a difference to the guys fighting it out on the field.

Tailgate starts @9:30-9:45a.m. I have included a link for directions and the campus map. This link will give directions to the field and parking lot from all different directions. http://wayne.edu/about/directions.php. While the directions to the campus are good, they take you to parking structure #6. DON'T GO THERE. We are going to be in LOT #50. Lot #50 which is NOT listed on the map as such, but it is in the lower left hand side of map just below " Matthael Physical Education Center" where there are 2 "P" designations in the red diamonds. This lot #50 is at the corner of the John C. Lodge Service Drive and Warren Ave. We will be in the South side of the lot. Just look for the Hillsdale Blue! The address is 1200 W. Warren and the parking is free.
http://campusmap.wayne.edu/

Now, for something really important -- we need 4 parents to bring cookies/treats for the players to eat with dinner on their way home after the game. These can be home made or purchased. If you are willing to volunteer your culinary or shopping talents, please respond to Paul Korte at pkorte2@comcast.net.

See you Saturday. Don't forget the rain gear! Don't forget the noise makers!!!!!

It's Great to Be Back Home!

After a big game on the road, it's going to feel great getting back to Hillsdale. I have to say that GVSU had to be impressed (even if a little bit) that little old Hillsdale could pack such a punch. Our tailgater was a big party. The GVSU police even showed up! (Actually Sgt. DeHaan is a friend of ours.) On the field, our guys gave GVSU a game too. Our players even got a kick out of being heckled by the GVSU students during the warm-ups! We had a great crowd cheering our team on!

This week we will be hosting Northern Michigan at Muddy Waters Field. Our tailgater will begin at noon in the same location (gravel parking lot next to the sports complex.) I have been informed that THIS WEEK WE WILL BE HAVING A CHILI COOK-OFF! We will have small cups/bowls available for tasting. I think ballots will even be cast. Fortunately, ACORN has agreed to stay off campus and leave our voting procedures alone. Cook up your best, hottest, tastiest, award winning chili and bring it Saturday. Please bring all your fix-ins that accompany your chili too. Now is the time to prove that your chili is the "best!"

As usual, we will go into the stadium @ 2:10 to welcome our players onto the field. Bring your son's flag into the stadium as well and we will have tape to secure your flag.

What am I forgetting? Anyway, see you Saturday under sunny, chillier skies. Wear your Charger Blue and get ready to make some noise. I'm out of noise makers so dig up one or two from one of our previous games.

GO CHARGERS!
Mary

P.S. Don't forget to visit chargerblue.com. Andy Losik does such a nice job keeping us up-to-date on all the articles and awards given to our players. Andy does this in his spare time out of his love for the game and our team. Pictures and videos (amateur productions) are also found at http://chargerbluespace.ning.com. You can get to that from chargerblue.com. Everyone is welcome to post.

Hillsdale at GVSU - Party Crashers!

Hi Charger Parents and Fans!

This weekend is without a doubt a true "David vs. Goliath" moment! While young David was armed with only a sling shot, he defeated the mighty Goliath who was armed with a sword. And while Hillsdale College is much smaller than Grand Valley, we can envision, hope and pray for a Hillsdale Victory. Our guys are tough and have talent. I beleive it can happen! Courage to make the vision come true will come from the players but we as parents and fans can be the most supportive, positive and enthusiastic visitors ever to enter Lubbers Stadium.

GVSU is celebrating their Homecoming this weekend by asking their fans to all wear blue. Won't that be interesting? We are almost identical in school colors. To show support for our players, PLEASE BRING A SMALL WHITE RALLY TOWEL that can be waved when cheering our guys on! Hillsdale has the best "visitor" crowds and if we are all waving our white towels, I believe it can be quite impressive. I will bring some more noise makers too! PLEASE BRING COW BELLS AND OTHER NOISE MAKERS! Whoever has the D-(Fence) sign(s), please bring it.

Tailgating and Parking Info

Tailgating will begin at 4:00p.m. The parking lot will be closed until then. THE HILLSDALE TAILGATER WILL BE IN LOT F. Parking is $5 for cars and $10 for RV's. GVSU said they will have a 20 X 20 tent sent up somewhere in the parking lot that we can use. We will have grills and grillers available. If you have a table, please bring it. We can set up our pot-luck food underneath the tent. Don't forget your dish to pass!

Directions

http://www.gvsu.edu/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.maps will get our fans to the campus from any direction. Lot F is directly behind the rec. center. Look for the Hillsdale flags!

http://www.countryinnsdestinationguide.com/locationMap.process/OID_f5gf3sd7/?hotelCode=MIGREAST will get our fans to the hotel. The hotel is the Country Inns and Suites at 1-616-942-7855 at the E. Beltline and I-96.

I hope that's everything. Drive carefully and I will see you on Saturday!

Mary

Hillsdale Homecoming

Hi Again Charger Parents!

With the constant barrage of political and financial media coverage, is anyone else as happy as I am to be able to get away from all that and enjoy an entire Saturday cheering on my favorite football team? This Saturday, the Chargers play Findlay at home. I checked the weather and it looks like mother nature is going to give us a great day for a Hillsdale Homecoming!

Our tailgater this week will be in the GRASSY LOT next to our usual spot. We will be getting there @12 noon. The school has planned for some really fun activities to celebrate their homecoming. "So get ready, cause here they come!"

12:30p.m. - 2:15p.m. Charger Tailgate Lunch $5.00 per person
5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. Post game dinner in the Knorr Family Dining Room (Grewcock Student Union) $5.00 per person
7:00p.m. - 11:00p.m. Formal lounge and patio, Grewcock Student Union (cash bar available)
8:00p.m. - 11:00p.m. Charger Tent Party $5.00 per person; cash bar available. FEATURING THE BAND RARE EARTH!

Just when you thought you couldn't have any more fun.......

The Gridiron Club Tent will be set up again this year in their same location as last year. Alum Lennie Stover, wants to invite everyone to stop by and watch some Charger Football Highlights and whatever other college football games are on Saturday. The Gridiron Club will also be selling $5 and $10 squares for the game and Locker Sponsorships. There will be FREE beverages available under the Gridiron tent as well. Who doesn't love that?

Kim Wiska wants you to know that she will have some clothing orders available for pick up. She will be getting to the tailgate party a little late. If you miss her before the game, she will meet you inside the sports complex near the stairwell after the game.

I hope I haven't forgotten anything. Basically all you need to know is to COME EARLY AND STAY LATE! Wear your Charger Blue and be ready to make some noise! Sounds like fun.

See you all Saturday under sunny skies!

Mary

P.S. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT CHARGERBLUE.COM FOR CURRENT ARTICLES AND UPDATES ABOUT OUR CHARGER FOOTBALL TEAM AND PLAYERS!

Hillsdale Charger Fans go to Indy

Let's go Chargers!

The first thing I want to do is give a great big "shout out" to the Charger parent who arranged for the 3 hour respite from the rain on Saturday! This weekend looks like it will be much nicer and hopefully a little less humid.

We need a victory in Indianapolis! Game time is 6 PM. Let's support the guys with a great turnout and a lot of Charger noise and enthusiasm. We will start tailgating in the free parking lot between #7- Schwitzer Student Center (on the map http://www.uindy.edu/maps/campusmap.php) and #17 Nicoson Hall at around 3:30. It is imperative that we "take-over" this lot between 3-4 pm since it is free. They will not reserve it for us. So, as many of you as can get there by 3 pm would be helpful!

Bring the usual dish to pass. Grills will be present! Wear your colors for Hillsdale! Bring your flags to be taped up at the field. We will have duct tape. The directions to the field can be found on the following web site http://www.uindy.edu/maps/driving.php.

For those of you staying at the hotel (Comforts Suites at 4125 Kildeer Dr, (317)791-9610) the directions to the hotel can be found at http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Hillsdale&1s=MI&2c=Indiannapolis&2s=IN&2a=4125+Kildeer+Dr from Hillsdale. There is a hot and cold breakfast buffet on Sunday morning.

From the hotel to the field would be http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Indianapolis&1s=IN&1a=4125+Kildeer+Dr&1z=46237-3200&1y=US&1l=39.667158&1g=-86.096005&1v=ADDRESS&2c=Indiannapolis&2s=IN&2a=1400+East+Hanna+Ave&2pn=University+of+Indiannapolis&r=s#a/maps/l::4125+Kildeer+Dr:Indianapolis:IN:46237-3200:US:39.667158:-86.096005:address:/l:University+of+Indianapolis:1400+E+Hanna+Ave:Indianapolis:IN:46227:US:39.708286:-86.134561:address:/m::10:39.68781:-86.115283:0::/io:1:::::s:EN:M:/e

I hope this is not too confusing. FYI -- Indianapolis is a DRY CAMPUS. Please be discrete.

Also, a reminder to those who volunteered, remember to bring cookies or candy bars for the bus ride home.

If you have any tailgate questions, feel free to contact Paul Korte at pkorte2@comcast.net

****Do you ever check out Chargerblue.com?******

Well, you should. Andy Losik, a Hillsdale alum, runs the Chargerblue website. It is the place to get all your up-to-date Charger football information. There is also a place on the web site were I will post weekly information for parents and fans. ALSO, you can also go view football game pics and videos at htpp://chargerbluespace.ning.com. Chargers vs. Northwood Tailgater

Hi Charger Parents!

Fire Up! Michigan Tech is behind us now. Let's rally around our young men this weekend while they battle Northwood. If there is anyone out there with some pull with mother nature, I would appreciate it if we could have a "rain free" day. If I was greedy, I would have asked for sunny and 75 but I'm not.

Anyway, our tailgater gathering will begin around 12 Noon. We will meet again in the parking lot next to the sports complex. We will have grills and grill masters. Remember to bring your dish to pass. Don't forget to take your dish off the table before you head into the stadium. Although the flies appreciate the forgotten food, the students who take down the tables will simply throw any leftover food away.

Vonnie Sandner will have buttons available for #44 and #49. She will be under her tent with #28 flag flying. Vonnie will take button orders this Saturday. This will be the final opportunity to order buttons this year.

Kim Wiska will have clothing available for previously placed orders. The window for placing orders for Charger gear is also closing. Kim said she would be willing to put in one more order if the demand is there. Kim will also have charger Spirit Wear Long Sleeve T-Shirts for people to buy. The Spirit Wear was not a pre-order basis and once the shirts are sold out, they are gone. The Shirts are $15.00 a piece and she thinks the boys would love them. They have the slogan for the year on the back and a football logo on the front.

Nancy Rumsey has graciously volunteered to make more lanyards and they will be for sale at the tailgater. Car decals will also be available.

Paul Korte would like you all to know that for those parents who might want the individual banner for their player, they can contact Joe Wehrle at JoeW@UniqueImagesLLC.com for details.

Have I left anything out? Hopefully this covers everything. As always, keep checking the Chargerblue web site for messages and postings.

Your Charger Cheerleader,
Mary

Football Tickets for Home Games

Okay, the official word on the street regarding tickets for Hillsdale parents and families is as follows. In addition to the passes from the Parent Booster Club, each player is allowed to sign up 4 people to be admitted for FREE for each home game. These tickets may be picked up at the Hillsdale Will Call window which in now the third window of the ticket booth. You must show I.D. for each individual ticket at the booth. There is no transferring of names, this is a conference rule. Your son may sign up for these tickets in the locker room the week of the game.

Hillsdale at Mich Tech Tailgating Info!

Dear Charger Fans and Parents,

--When you roll in Friday night, hop over to the Applebee's (bar area) located right near the hotel. Grab a beverage or a bite to eat with the other Charger parents. We have a great time the night before the games on these overnighters. We will collect there around 7 pm and you can have a drink and some dinner. Wear some "Hillsdale Garb" so we will recognize you!

--Just some notes for the parents that might help all of us. The game is at 1 pm so we will start to gather around 11 am. in the parking lot on the visitors side.

-- Tailgating as usual! Meet in the parking lot behind the visitor's stands around 11:AM. I know many of you are taking 2 days to get up there so you may not want to pack tailgating food and all that. There are many convenience stores and carry outs near our hotel (including Walmart) to stock up on the tailgate stuff. To our new freshman parents...please, don't be shy, come over and introduce yourselves and join right in. You will not find a more welcoming and friendly group than us. We were all the "new families" at one time or another.-

--Bring your main dish, beverages, eating utensils and a small dish to pass. Bring a couple of fold up chairs, a small table (if you have one) & portable grill (many Charger families that have grills are willing to share space if you don't have one). Don't forget a trash bag! Don't forget to wear your Charger apparel and bring your flags which we will display in the stadium.
